You may have noticed that we have let the above grass grow between the practice green and public footpath.  We’d normally cut this to rough height, but in our attempt to continuously look at our environmental impact, we felt this was an area we could grow out for a number of reasons:

  • To provide a demarcation between the practice green and Public Right of Way (PROW) and act as a guide for those walking through the course
  • To grow more wild areas on unused land to encourage more wildlife.  We’ll be seed bombing this area in Autumn with wildflower butterfly and bee friendly seeds which will bloom next Spring
  • It saves us a tiny amount of money in fuel and machine hours so its better for the environment and our staff can concentrate on improving other areas of the course

There are a couple of places on the course we have identified where we may trial growing in some more wild areas, so you may see these develop over the coming months.

We also have a meeting planned in October with our England Golf Sustainability Officer, Caitlin where we will be discussing ways we can be more sustainable in the following areas:

On-Course

  • Biodiversity & Habitat
  • Water Resources
  • Energy & Emissions
  • Transport & Travel
  • Materials & Chemicals

Off-Course

  • Food & Drink
  • Waste Management
  • Solar Panels
  • EV Charging

Sales & Procurement

  • Sustainable Procurement Methods
  • Materials, Food & Drink

We’ll report back on any more sustainability initiatives we may introduce.
