On Saturday 6th September 2025, we’re inviting golfers, friends, and supporters to take part in the Martin Bembridge Memorial Shield, our annual event held in memory of a much-loved member of our golfing community.
Martin was a true regular here — known for his big personality, warm heart, and ever-present smile. Whether you knew him from the fairways or coffee in the clubhouse, Martin left a lasting impression on all of us. Following his tragic passing in February 2023, we established this event to celebrate his life, share some laughs, and raise funds for Martin’s sporting loves. Martins son Harry has chosen SWFC Community Foundation for this years fundraising efforts!
Last year, we had a fantastic turnout, and Paul Hudson etched his name onto the winners trophy last year. This year, we’re looking to grow the field and make the day even more special.

(£5 deposit required – please pay at Reception, cash preferred)
Eligibility: Anyone with a WHS or BLGC handicap is welcome to take part.
Trophy: The highest WHS score on the day will take home the Martin Bembridge Memorial Shield, which stays on display at the club with each winner’s name engraved.
After the Round
We’ll be heading over to The Royal Oak in Barlborough for a prize presentation. Everyone is welcome — whether you’ve played or just want to raise a toast to Martin. There won’t be any food provided, as we’re focusing on raising as much as we can for SWFC Community Foundation.

We’ll also be running a raffle on the day — and we’d truly appreciate any prize donations from those who can’t attend. Every contribution helps make this a meaningful and successful event.
